Human Resources Specialist Position Summary
The Human Resources Specialist is a professional who takes great pride in their work and the field of HR. This position is critical to the operations in order to accurately assimilate pay information from multiple sources into accurate bi-weekly Payroll. The administration of the Benefits Package and tracking its effectiveness is another key area of responsibility. Collaboration with leaders to attract and retain skilled and productive employees is a regular occurrence and critical to successful operations. Special projects and assignments are given to expand knowledge and skills as well as allow the incumbent a wider view of the Human Resources function and business.
Core Duties And Responsibilities
• Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees hourly rates, salaries, commissions, tips or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
• Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions. Communicates with Accounting Director to ensure tip information and Payroll accounting is complete and accurate.
• Responsible for running accurate Payroll processing every 2 weeks. Innovative ideas to bring more efficiency to the Payroll Process are welcome and expected.
• Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
• Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
• Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
• Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
• Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
• Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
• Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
• Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
• Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
• Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
• Facilitates the annual open enrollment process.
• Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
• Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
• Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Special projects, as assigned, to develop knowledge and skills in other areas of Human Resources.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, relevant experience in Human Resources. Certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years experience preparing and processing Payroll on a regular basis. 5+ years experience preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience administering health and 401K benefits. 5+ years experience preferred. Processing monthly invoice experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Payroll and HRIS software required. Experience with Paylocity preferred.
• Must have a strong aptitude for numbers, data and enjoy analyzing data to tell the story of the situation. Data analysis skills to include payroll, benefits, performance management, salary data, and numbers projections. Ability to catch data that looks out of place and/or errors.
• Intermediate to advanced EXCEL skills and Microsoft Office suite.
• Comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization.
• Strong professional demeanor. Embraces the concept of respect for people which has no place for gossip or negativity.

• Multi-tasking skills. Able to track multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to work in a hybrid work environment and complete work independently without the need for follow up on a regular basis.
• Understands the value of collaboration which prompts regular communication with the Human Resources Director and other leaders to stay current with needs and priorities.
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
• Ability to understand and see the connections between business needs and HR expertise.
