Job Summary

The Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist will oversee the full volunteer lifecycle, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, and onboarding. This role is responsible not only for identifying qualified candidates, but also for ensuring a smooth, engaging, and structured onboarding experience that supports volunteer retention and success. The ideal candidate has an academic background in Human Resources, experience screening and evaluating candidates, and a strong understanding of labor legislation and onboarding best practices. This individual should be a proactive team leader who can make sound decisions quickly and foster a welcoming, mission-driven environment.

This is a part-time, unpaid, virtual volunteer position. Our programs focus on promoting mental awareness, healthy living, social justice, and racial reconciliation.

Responsibilities
• Manage the end-to-end recruitment and onboarding process, from candidate sourcing through orientation and integration
• Design, implement, and continuously improve structured onboarding programs to ensure volunteers are effectively trained, engaged, and aligned with organizational goals
• Develop onboarding materials, including orientation guides, training resources, and welcome communications
• Serve as the primary point of contact for new volunteers, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles and addressing any onboarding-related questions
• Track onboarding progress and gather feedback to enhance the volunteer experience and retention strategies
• Update current and design new recruiting procedures to improve efficiency and candidate experience
• Maintain and analyze recruiting and onboarding metrics to inform decision-making
• Evaluate recruitment and onboarding software/tools and recommend improvements based on organizational needs
• Research and select effective job advertising and outreach strategies
• Advise hiring managers on interviewing techniques and onboarding best practices
• Recommend strategies to strengthen the organization’s employer brand and volunteer value proposition
• Represent the organization at volunteer fairs and recruitment events
• Build and maintain a strong professional network through relationships with HR professionals, colleges, and community partners

Requirements and skills
• Work experience as a Recruiting Manager, Recruitment Consultant or Recruiting Coordinator
• Hands-on experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and HR databases
• Experience with (phone and in-person) interviews, candidate screening and evaluation
• Familiarity with social media and other professional networks
• Excellent verbal and written communication and team management skills
• Strong decision-making skills

• 4 hour shift
